How to Install an Adjustable Mesh Side Panel for a Pool Fence Gap
Small openings between a removable pool fence and a wall, column, gate, or other fixed point can be difficult to close with a standard fence section. The All-Safe Adjustable Mesh Side Panel Kit provides a customizable solution for openings approximately 9¼ to 29 inches wide.
The frame, mesh, and molding are cut and assembled during installation, allowing the finished panel to coordinate with the height and appearance of your existing All-Safe pool fence.
When Should You Use an Adjustable Side Panel?
An Adjustable Mesh Side Panel can be used when a standard pool fence panel will not fit the available space, including:
- Between a pool fence and a wall or column
- Next to a gate or gate post
- At the end of a fence layout
- In another narrow opening measuring approximately 9¼ to 29 inches wide
The side panel is stationary and is not designed to open or function as a gate.
What Is Included?
The Adjustable Mesh Side Panel Kit includes:
3 painted frame tubes
4 frame tube connectors
2 rectangular post components
4 D&D screws
1 mesh panel with a sewn-on border, approximately 58.5 inches tall by 30 inches wide
3 molding strips
1 bag of square-drive screws
The frame finish and mesh should be selected to coordinate with the existing pool fence.
Before You Begin
Measure the opening carefully before cutting any of the components. The finished side panel must fit securely between the adjoining fence and the wall, post, column, or other termination point.
Also confirm:
- The opening falls within the kit’s approximate 9¼- to 29-inch width range
- The required finished height
- Where and how the panel will be attached
- That the selected mesh and frame finish match the existing fence
- That the completed layout will meet applicable pool-barrier and local building requirements
Because the components are cut for the individual installation, measurements should be checked before making permanent cuts.
How to Assemble the Adjustable Mesh Side Panel
1. Measure the opening
Measure the available width at the top and bottom of the opening. Do not assume the wall, column, or adjoining fence is perfectly straight.
Determine the finished height needed to align the side panel with the existing pool fence.
2. Cut the frame components
Mark and cut the painted frame tubes to create a frame that fits the measured opening. Account for the connectors and adjoining components when determining the final cut lengths.
Check the frame against the opening before attaching the mesh.
3.Assemble the frame
Use the provided frame tube connectors to join the cut frame components. Confirm that the frame is square and that it fits the opening properly before proceeding.
4.Cut and position the mesh
Lay the assembled frame over the mesh and determine the amount of material needed to cover the opening.
Position the mesh so that it is straight and properly tensioned. Avoid leaving the material loose, uneven, or wrinkled.
5. Secure the mesh and molding
Place the molding over the mesh along the appropriate frame edges. Use the included square-drive screws to secure the molding and mesh to the frame.
Maintain even mesh tension as the screws are installed.
6. Install the completed side panel
Position the assembled panel in the opening and attach it to the corresponding fence or structural components using the provided hardware and the attachment method appropriate for the installation.
Before completing the installation, confirm that the panel is straight, secure, and properly aligned with the adjoining pool fence.
Final Installation Check
After installation:
- Confirm that the panel is securely attached
- Check that the mesh is evenly tensioned
- Make sure there are no excessive openings around the panel
- Verify that the panel cannot be easily displaced
- Confirm that the complete pool barrier meets applicable local requirements
The Adjustable Mesh Side Panel is designed to help close a difficult opening, but the product by itself does not guarantee that the entire pool fence layout complies with ASTM standards or local pool-barrier codes.
