What Core Drill Do I Need for a 1-Inch Pool Fence Installation?

Installing a 1-inch removable pool fence requires a wet diamond core drill. Unlike our ½-inch Peg Pole System, which can be installed using a hammer drill, 1-inch pool fence systems require wet diamond core drilling to create clean, precise holes for the deck sleeves.

While All-Safe sells the diamond core bits needed for installation, we do not rent or sell the core drill itself.

What Core Drill Should I Use?

A wet diamond core drill, such as the Hilti DD150 with the BiChuck system, is commonly used for installing 1-inch removable pool fence systems.

Many equipment rental companies carry comparable wet diamond core drills, and many customers have successfully rented the Hilti DD150 from Sunbelt Rentals. However, rental inventory varies by location, so availability is never guaranteed.

Choosing the Right Diamond Core Bit

If you rent a Hilti DD150 with the BiChuck system, you have two options:

  • Purchase an All-Safe diamond core bit along with the required adaptor/converter.
  • Purchase a Hilti-compatible diamond core bit, which installs directly into the drill without an adaptor.

Before your installation, always verify that your core bit is compatible with the drill you plan to rent.

Where Can I Rent a Wet Diamond Core Drill?

Many local equipment rental companies offer wet diamond core drills suitable for installing a 1-inch pool fence. One of the largest nationwide rental companies is Sunbelt Rentals, and many of their locations offer the Hilti DD150 or similar wet diamond core drills.

However, inventory varies by location, and not every branch stocks the same equipment. Even if a location normally carries the drill, it may already be rented out by another customer.

Before You Reserve Your Rental

We recommend contacting your local rental company before scheduling your installation to confirm:

  • A compatible wet diamond core drill is available for your rental dates.
  • The drill includes the correct chuck system (such as the BiChuck if using a Hilti DD150).
  • You have the correct diamond core bit.
  • You have any required adaptor or converter.
  • You’ll have access to a water source, as diamond core bits must be used with water during drilling.

Why Calling Ahead Is Important

Wet diamond core drills are frequently rented by contractors for commercial and residential construction projects. Even rental locations that normally carry these drills may not have one available when you need it.

Confirming equipment availability before installation day can help avoid delays and ensure you have everything needed to complete your installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a hammer drill instead?

No. A hammer drill is appropriate for installing All-Safe’s ½-inch Peg Pole System, but 1-inch removable pool fence systems require wet diamond core drilling.

Does All-Safe rent core drills?

No. All-Safe sells compatible diamond core bits and accessories but does not rent or sell wet diamond core drills.

Can I use a different wet diamond core drill?

Yes, provided the drill is compatible with your selected diamond core bit. Always verify compatibility before your installation.

Do I need an adaptor?

It depends on the drill and the diamond core bit you purchase. Some combinations require an adaptor or converter, while others connect directly to the drill.

Installing a ½-inch Peg Pole System?

This article applies only to 1-inch removable pool fence systems. If you’re installing a ½-inch Peg Pole System, you’ll use a hammer drill instead of a wet diamond core drill.
