A tragic event that could have been prevented happened in our neighboring community Coto De Caza recently. A 2-year old girl died this past Monday night after she was found unconscious in a backyard pool in Coto de Caza, CA. Authorities said the pool did not have a pool safety fence, or a pool safety cover such as a mesh pool cover or hard-top pool cover which allowed the young girl easy access, and ultimately lead to this unfortunate tragedy.
The drowning occurred just days after two toddlers were critically injured in separate near-drownings in backyard pools in Tustin and Placentia.
There have been eight drownings and seven near-drowning incidents in Orange County this year. Of the 15 incidents, six of the injured or dead were 7 years old or younger, and seven of the incidents involved people 50 years old or older.
