Pool Layout & Material Planning

Enter the approximate layout measurements and fence details for your planned pool fence installation.

Answer a few questions about your pool layout, preferred fence style, and installation needs to receive a recommended material summary.

Material quantities are based on the measurements and selections you provide. Extra material is not automatically added to your results.

Your results are estimates only and may vary depending on your exact layout and installation conditions.

We recommend reviewing your planned fence layout carefully before ordering materials.

What is the main reason you are installing a pool fence?*

Which fence height are you considering?*
A 4 ft pool fence is the most common choice for residential DIY pool safety. A 5 ft fence may be preferred when extra height is desired or when a project needs to meet a specific code, inspection, HOA, or agency requirement.
IMPORTANT: If your pool fence is being installed for a building code, inspection, HOA, agency, or other compliance requirement, a 5 ft fence is required in most cases.

You may continue with a 4 ft fence selection if preferred, however we strongly recommend confirming the required fence height with your local agency, inspector, HOA, or project contact before ordering.
Which installation method are you most interested in?*
DIY-Friendly Peg Pole System
• Smaller 1/2-inch deck holes
• Most popular DIY option
• Uses a standard hammer drill
• Easier installation process

Professional-Style 1″ Pole System
• Larger 1-inch fence poles
• Requires wet core drilling equipment
• More advanced installation method
• Common for professional installations

Fence Length by Surface

Enter the approximate number of feet your fence will run across each surface type. Enter measurements in feet only using whole numbers. Do not enter inches, symbols, or fractions. Example: Enter 42 for 42 feet.

If your fence will only be installed into one surface, enter the full fence length for that surface and leave the others blank or enter 0.

Your material recommendations will be based on the measurements you provide. Extra material is not automatically added.

Grass, Dirt & Turf Installation Note

Pool fence installations in grass, dirt, or turf areas typically require PVC ground sleeves and concrete footings to properly secure the fence and maintain correct fence tension.

This estimator will provide a recommended PVC sleeve quantity later based on the measurements you enter.
IMPORTANT: The 1-inch pole system is not compatible with paver installations.

Please return to the previous step and select the DIY-Friendly Peg Pole System or contact us for assistance reviewing your layout.
IMPORTANT: 1-Inch Pole System & Wood Deck Installations

The 1-inch pole fence system is generally not recommended for wood or composite deck installations due to deck joist sizing, structural limitations, and installation requirements.

If your deck joists run consistently through the planned fence layout, All-Safe’s pre-assembled 15 foot fence sections with 36 inch pole spacing may work for your installation.

If the deck framing or joist spacing is staggered and does not align consistently throughout the layout, the fence may need to be built poolside using individual raw materials. We refer to this as a “Build on Site” installation.

Build on Site installations typically use:
  • Individual poles
  • Mesh with border
  • Moldings and raw materials
We generally recommend using the Peg Pole fence system for wood or composite deck installations.

Important: Current ASTM guidelines allow no more than 40 inches on center between fence poles.
Wood & Composite Deck Installation Note

If the deck framing or joist spacing is staggered and does not align consistently throughout the layout, the fence may need to be built poolside using individual raw materials. We refer to this as a “Build on Site” installation.

Build on Site installations typically use:
  • Individual poles
  • Mesh with border
  • Moldings and raw materials
We generally recommend using the Peg Pole fence system for wood or composite deck installations due to typical deck joist sizing and structural limitations.

Important: Current ASTM guidelines allow no more than 40 inches on center between fence poles.
IMPORTANT: Professional installation is highly recommended for tile or stone surfaces. Proceed with caution if you plan to complete your own installation.
How many self-closing gates are included in your planned layout?*
IMPORTANT: Self-closing gates require proper fence tension and a stable installation surface in order to function correctly. Always install your gate into a solid, secure surface.

Corners & Turns

As you review your pool fence layout, consider how the fence line will run around your pool, landscaping, steps, patios, walls, or other features.

If your fence layout changes direction, follows curves, or makes sharper turns, you may need to consider different installation methods or additional components to properly support the fence.

We generally recommend fence layouts that follow straight lines and gradual turns whenever possible. However, for many pool layouts, turns and directional changes are unavoidable or may better fit your space and design preferences.

Examples of Pool Fence Turns and Direction Changes

Examples of gradual turns, directional changes, and corner layouts commonly used in removable mesh pool fence installations.

Does your fence layout include any sharp turns or corners?*
We generally recommend fence layouts that follow straight lines and gradual turns whenever possible. If your layout needs to make sharper turns or change direction significantly, select “Yes” below so we can help guide you through compatible turn and corner options.
Are any of these turns or corners located in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas?*
We generally recommend fence layouts that follow straight lines and gradual turns whenever possible. If your layout needs to make sharper turns or change direction significantly, select “Yes” below so we can help guide you through compatible turn and corner options.
Layout Review Note

You indicated that one or more turns may be located in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas, however no fence footage was previously entered for these surfaces under “Fence Length by Surface”.

Review your layout carefully to ensure all installation surfaces are accounted for before ordering materials.
Dirt, Grass & Landscape Turn Note

Turns in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas typically require a Round Terminating Post to properly support and redirect the fence line.

This is different from standard concrete deck surface turn method because the post needs to be secured in the ground with a concrete footing.
Round Terminating Post Example

Example of a Round Terminating Post used to support and redirect a fence turn in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas.

Would you like to include Round Terminating Posts in your layout?*
We generally recommend fence layouts that follow straight lines and gradual turns whenever possible. If your layout needs to make sharper turns or change direction significantly, select “Yes” below so we can help guide you through compatible turn and corner options.
Would you like to make your Round Terminating Post Removable?*
Round Terminating Post Sleeves allow the post to remain removable for future fence removal or seasonal storage. The Sleeve is secured with a concrete footing (we recommend rapid set concrete for this footing).

Many turns and layout direction changes can be completed using standard fence sections and normal installation techniques without requiring specialty corner hardware.

Depending on your layout and installation surfaces, some turns may benefit from additional support methods or corner components.

Select any turn methods below that may apply to your planned layout.

Which turn methods may apply to your layout?
This choice affects the appearance, installation method, and possible additional materials needed for your fence layout. Gradual or soft turns can usually be completed with standard fence sections and typically add little to no extra cost. Corner Posts can create a cleaner, more defined turn, but they may add product cost, installation time, and require a more advanced installation techniques.

Turn Method Options

Gradual Turns: Best for slight curves or gentle layout changes. No additional specialty components are usually needed.

Double Pole Turns: Uses standard fence poles placed close together so pole end points meet and create a turn.

Corner Posts: Best for sharper turns or a cleaner finished corner. Adds hardware cost and installation complexity.
Gradual Turn Note

Gradual turns are typically completed using standard fence sections and normal pole spacing. They usually do not require additional specialty components. However, you can add additional poles to ensure your installation goes smoothly.
Double Pole Turn Note

Double pole turns are typically completed using standard fence poles placed close together so two pole end points meet. They usually do not require additional poles. However, you can add additional poles to ensure your installation goes smoothly.
If you are making gradual turns, double-pole turns, or want extra poles available for layout adjustments, enter the number of additional poles you would like to include. These poles are typically the same height as your pool fence.
Corner Posts are commonly used for sharper turns, cleaner alignment, or stronger support at tighter corners. They may add product cost, installation time, and require a more advanced installation method.

Fence Start & End Locations

As you review your pool fence layout, consider how your fence will begin and end throughout the installation.

Some fence layouts fully connect back to themselves and do not require additional end-point components.

Other layouts may begin or end at a wall, home, window area, existing fence, landscaping area, or another structure. In these cases, additional support or attachment components may be needed.

Closed Loop Layout

Open Ended Layout on Solid Surface

Open-Ended Layout — Solid Surface
Fence begins or ends at a wall, structure, or another solid surface such as concrete, pavers, or tile.

Open Ended Layout in Dirt or Grass

Open-Ended Layout — Dirt or Grass
Fence begins or ends in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas and typically requires a Round Terminating Post.

Which layout type best matches your installation?*
Closed Loop Layout Note

Fence layouts that fully connect back to themselves typically do not require additional start or end-point components.

Each standard fence section panel includes one section latch used to connect fence sections together. Additional section latches can be purchased if needed.
Open-Ended Layout — Solid Surface

If your fence layout begins or ends at a wall, home, brick structure, or another solid surface, there are typically two ways to support the fence connection.

Wall Attachment:
Used when the structure is strong enough to safely support fence tension and hardware attachment.

Rectangular Support Post:
Used when the structure cannot safely support fence tension or when you prefer not to drill into the wall or surface. The post acts as the support structure for the fence connection.

Rectangular Support Posts are typically a higher-cost option than Wall Attachments.
Open-Ended Dirt Installation Note

If your fence layout begins or ends in dirt, grass, turf, or landscaping areas, a Round Terminating Post is typically required to properly support the fence and maintain correct fence tension.

Round Terminating Posts can be permanently cemented into the ground or installed using a removable sleeve system.

Additional concrete footings and installation materials may also be required depending on your layout and surface conditions.
