What is a Mesh Pool Fence?

A mesh pool fence is a removable safety barrier that surrounds your pool to help protect children and pets. Built with strong, climb-resistant mesh and sturdy poles, it creates a secure perimeter without blocking your view. It stands 4 or 5 feet tall, features see-through mesh, and is securely inserted into your pool deck with proper tension—yet can be taken down when you need full access.

Is a Mesh Pool Fence the Right Safety Choice for Your Family?

Trusted by thousands of families for child & pet pool safety.

A mesh pool fence is one of the most effective ways to help prevent unsupervised access to the pool — especially for families with young children or pets.

Designed to create a secure barrier without permanently changing your backyard, it adds protection while maintaining clear visibility and everyday usability. Many homeowners choose removable mesh pool fencing for one simple reason:

peace of mind when you can’t be poolside every second.

A mesh pool fence may be the right solution if:

  • You want to reduce the risk of accidental pool access by children or pets
  • You need a strong safety barrier that still keeps your pool visible
  • You prefer a solution that’s secure, yet removable when full access is needed
  • You want protection that blends into your yard without feeling permanent

When properly installed, a mesh pool fence adds an important layer of protection — helping your family enjoy the pool while prioritizing safety every day.

What Does a Pool Fence Cost?

Most pool fence projects fall within a predictable range based on your layout, number of gates, and whether you choose professional installation or DIY.

Every pool is different, but the guide below gives a realistic starting point for both professional installation and DIY options.

What affects pool fence pricing:

  • Total linear feet of fence needed
  • Number of self-closing gates
  • Deck surface (concrete, pavers, grass, dirt, or other materials)
  • Custom layout challenges (steps, slopes, raised walls)

Not sure where your project falls? Most homeowners start by choosing their installation path and getting a quick estimate.

Pool Fence FAQs

Not sure where to start? Here are answers to the most common questions homeowners ask when planning a pool fence.

How much does a pool fence cost?

Pool fence cost depends on your pool size, layout, and whether you choose professional installation or a DIY kit. Most professionally installed pool fences range from $2,000–$3,500+, while DIY options can cost significantly less depending on the size of your project. The best way to get accurate pricing is to request a quote or measure your layout for a DIY estimate.

Do I need professional installation or can I DIY?

Many homeowners choose DIY pool fence installation to save on cost, especially if they’re comfortable using basic tools like a hammer drill. Others prefer professional installation for convenience and precision. Our team can help you choose the best option based on your yard, timeline, and comfort level.

Will a pool fence block my view?

Removable mesh pool fences are designed to be strong while maintaining visibility. The transparent mesh and slim poles allow you to keep an open view of your pool area while still creating a secure safety barrier.

How long does the install take?

Most professional pool fence installations are completed in just a few hours and typically within one day.

DIY installation time varies based on experience and yard size, but many homeowners complete their project over a weekend.

Will a pool fence meet local safety codes?

In most areas, All-Safe removable mesh pool fencing is designed to meet common pool safety barrier requirements. However, codes vary by state, county, and city. We recommend checking your local requirements, and our team or local installers can help guide you to ensure compliance.

Visit our Pool Fence Code & Compliance page to learn more about common regulations and how to stay compliant.

Do I need a self-closing gate to meet code?

Many local pool safety codes require a self-closing, self-latching gate as part of the barrier system. Even where not required, self-closing gates are strongly recommended for safety and convenience.

How tall should a pool fence be?

Most residential pool fences are 4 feet or 5 feet tall. Some areas require a minimum height, so checking local code is important. Taller fences provide additional safety and may be recommended depending on your layout.

Can a child climb or knock it over?

Mesh pool fences are designed specifically for child safety. The tightly woven mesh makes climbing difficult, and the tensioned installation helps prevent panels from being pushed over. No barrier replaces supervision, but a properly installed pool fence provides a critical layer of protection.

What surfaces can the fence be installed in?

Pool fences can be installed in concrete, pavers, turf, dirt, and other surfaces using the proper techniques and sleeves. Each installation is customized to the surface and layout of your yard.

What if my yard has slopes or planters?

Most yards have unique features like slopes, raised planters, or tight spaces. Removable mesh fencing is highly adaptable and can be custom-fit to follow grade changes and work around obstacles while maintaining safety.

Is the fence removable?

Yes. Removable mesh pool fences are designed to be taken down and reinstalled when needed. Deck sleeves remain flush with the surface, and optional deck plugs can cover holes when the fence is removed.

Is a mesh pool fence safe for dogs and pets?

Many homeowners install mesh pool fencing to help protect pets as well as children. It helps prevent unsupervised access to the pool area and creates a safer backyard environment for the whole family.

Most dogs leave the fence alone — but you know your pet best. If your dog tends to chew or claw at barriers, extra caution may be needed. While a determined pet may find a way (as they often do), removable mesh fencing still provides an important safety boundary and visual barrier.

If damage does occur, individual sections, mesh, or hardware can be repaired or replaced without replacing the entire fence system.

How long does a removable pool fence last?

With proper care, a quality removable mesh pool fence can last many years. Aluminum poles, stainless hardware, and UV-resistant mesh are designed to withstand outdoor conditions and regular use.

Color Variations

Colors on your screen or brochure may not match the actual color of your product.

Due to the many variations in monitors, phones, and browsers, color samples and product examples may appear different on different screens. Computers and mobile devices are not all calibrated equally and color reproduction on the Internet is not precise. The same is true for printed items such as brochures and other sales literature.

In addition, the colors of our products photograph differently under different lighting conditions. For example, photos taken in full sunlight will vary from photos taken on a cloudy or overcast day. Similarly, shadows from nearby objects can affect the color and transparency of our products. If a precise color or specific shade is important, please inspect the actual color of your product prior to installation.

Colors will vary from batch to batch.

Many of our products’ materials are not available through typical stores and vendors and therefore must be custom manufactured specifically for our use. In order to control costs and provide you with the best value possible, our raw materials are produced in large batches and can often take several months to receive. The colors of our materials can, and often do, vary slightly from batch to batch. Although we make every effort to minimize color variations, we cannot be responsible for these differences when they occur. If a precise color or specific shade is important, please inspect the actual color of your product prior to installation.

Color names are subjective and may not be what you think the color should be.

For example, we use the name “putty” to describe some of our products. Your idea of the color “putty” may be different than someone else’s idea of “putty”. In addition, products may have the same color name but may not be the exact same color. For example, we have different shades of “black”. Please do not order using color names as your only guide. If a precise color or specific shade is important, please inspect the actual color of your product prior to installation.

Inspect the actual color of your product prior to installation.

If it is important that your product be an exact color or shade, it is highly recommended that you inspect the actual product prior to its installation and address any concerns with your local independent installer. Most independent installers do not offer refunds or accept returns due to color variations.
